Dr James Brunning graduated in Medicine from University College London and completed his anaesthetic training in the West Midlands Deanery. He became a Consultant Anaesthetist at Russells Hall Hospital in 2012 before joining the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in 2018.

Biography

He has a strong interest in clinician wellbeing and medical education, having served as College Tutor and now as the Hospital's medical workforce wellbeing lead. Dr Brunning runs national and international courses supporting doctors to thrive in life.

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and a Diploma in Hypnosis from Birmingham City University. He is an examiner for the final professional exams for anaesthetists, the FRCA on behalf of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys reading, exercise, exploring the science of longevity, and spending time with his Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Dr Brunning is committed to calm, compassionate, and personalised care, helping each patient feel informed, reassured and relaxed as possible throughout their anaesthetic experience.
