Mr Jonathan Stevenson specialises in orthopaedic oncology and complex arthroplasty with sub-specialty interests in pelvic surgery and reconstruction, revision knee replacement and prosthetic joint infection.

Biography

Jonathan is principal investigator on studies into the osseointegration of endoprosthetic replacements for limb-salvage and detection of infected orthopaedic implants and is clinical lead for sarcoma genomics, metastatic bone disease and the research tissue bank at the ROH. He is the clinical lead for metastatic bone disease for the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) & British Orthopaedic Oncology Society and a trustee for the Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) leading on awareness and early diagnosis in bone sarcomas. He has recently opened the £2.2m NIHR funded PORTRAIT trial (Post-operative radiotherapy in surgically treated bone metastases) as chief investigator.

In addition to clinical work, Jonathan has presented research at an international level since 2010 and is a reviewer for multiple orthopaedic and oncology journals. He has authored greater than 140 peer reviewed scientific publications with over 2400 citations, six book chapters and am the co-editor of an orthopaedic basic sciences textbook. Due to his experience, he regularly examines on FRCS (Tr&Orth) courses, teaches on revision arthroplasty courses and lectures internationally.

Jonathan has been awarded multiple national research prizes for his work in orthopaedic oncology from different organisations, including the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society, the British Sarcoma Group and the Royal Society of Medicine. He was presented the British Orthopaedic Association International Travelling Fellowship Award (2014) and the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society European Travelling Fellowship Award (2015). He has also completed the British Orthopaedic Association clinical leadership programme and was awarded a level seven certificate in strategic management and leadership and in 2024 completed the prestigious American British Canadian travelling fellowship of North America.
