Biography
Mr Hussain’s expertise in managing complex hip and knee conditions is built on advanced fellowship training in lower limb arthroplasty at well-established centres in the UK, including Nottingham, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and North Bristol NHS Trust. These fellowships provided extensive experience in complex joint reconstruction. He was also awarded the prestigious British Hip Society travelling fellowship, which enabled him to visit the ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany – an internationally recognised centre of excellence for joint replacement – where he gained further experience in managing infected joint replacements.
He is a lower limb arthroplasty surgeon with a particular interest in hip resurfacing arthroplasty. This bone-conserving procedure is designed for younger, active patients with hip arthritis who wish to maintain high levels of activity, including sport. Mr Hussain performs hip and knee replacements, revision surgery for failed joint replacements, and fixation or replacement of periprosthetic fractures. He also has a special interest in the management of prosthetic joint infections.
He uses a wide range of implants, from Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) to complex revision prostheses and endoprosthetic replacements for cases involving significant bone loss, aiming to restore function and improve quality of life. He also uses the latest technology in arthroplasty, including robotic-assisted joint replacement. For suitable patients, he offers day-case hip and knee replacement surgery, enabling safe discharge on the same day.
Mr Hussain’s commitment to patient care is reflected in receiving the Outstanding Patient Experience Award in both 2024 and 2025 from Doctify. He is an active member of quality improvement committees at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and has recently been appointed Clinical Service Lead for the Outpatient Department.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Hussain has completed multiple research projects and received several academic prizes. He has contributed to orthopaedic research, including randomised controlled trials in robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery, authored a textbook chapter on hip replacement, and published articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the British Hip Society (BHS), the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He is also involved in education and regularly teaches on courses, including ATLS, while supporting the training of orthopaedic trainees.
