Mr Mehta is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. He qualified at Mumbai University in 1992. He gained his specialist training at the University of Liverpool, the South East Thames Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Programme and the Wales Deanery and undertook two fellowships in spinal surgery at Bristol and Columbia, Missouri, USA. He was a locum Consultant Spine Surgeon at the Centre for Spinal Disorders and Surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham before moving to Swansea to set up a new Spinal Unit. He began working at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust in 2013.
Mr Mehta specialises in the treating spinal deformity in children, teenagers, adults and the elderly populations, as also the treatment of degenerative conditions of the cervical and the lumbar spine and other aspects of spinal surgery including treating spinal tumours, trauma and infection. He has treated professional and semi-professional football, cricket and rugby players, and is Spine Consultant with the Swans City FC.
Mr Mehta has also published papers, co-authored chapters, presented papers to learned societies and lectured at national and international meetings. He has been on the faculty at national and international meetings. Mr Mehta is very active in clinical academia and research and is currently involved with various clinical and bio-mechanical research projects. He is on the Assistant Editorial Board of European Spine Journal, Reviewer for Spine and on the SRS Grant Review Committee.
