How the Woodlands Suite Made a Difference for David

David recently had spinal surgery at the Woodlands Suite, Private Care at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation Trust. He isn’t a stranger to surgeries, having had a few procedures in the past, but this experience means he knows the value in picking the right hospital - and the right specialist surgeon.

After months of struggling with sciatica in both legs that limited his mobility and daily activities, he realised something was seriously wrong. A scan at a centre near his home revealed the need for lumbar decompression spinal surgery.

A retired newspaper CEO, David brings the same meticulousness to researching and preparing for medical decisions as he did with managing the newspapers he ran.

After thorough investigation, he selected Mr. Andrew Young, a first-class spinal surgeon, as his preferred specialist. “Mr. Young stood out immediately,” David shared. “He was not only very qualified but easy to talk to and very thorough in explaining my condition and expectations. I knew I’d get on with him—his personality and expertise were reassuring from the start.”

The Woodlands Suite is sited within The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, a specialist NHS hospital, and the fact that the hospital has a high-dependency unit was an added layer of reassurance for David. “Being at an NHS hospital with the presence of a high-dependency unit is a real benefit,” he noted. “It’s just comforting to know it’s there, and I went into the operation with peace of mind if any complications were to arise.”

David was equally impressed by the attentive nursing staff and comfortable facilities at the Woodlands Suite. “The room was a lovely surprise! I’ve been to private hospitals before, and I have to say that the Woodlands Suite at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital was impressive. The nurses were caring, the food was excellent, and every member of staff I met was incredibly responsive,” he said.

Post-operation, David's recovery is ongoing but he’s already back to enjoying activities, completing simple DIY projects, going on holiday, and riding his electric bike. He’s especially pleased with the minimal scarring. “When I visited my GP after the surgery, even the nurse was impressed by the neatness of the stitches,” David recalled fondly. “There’s barely a scar at all!”

David’s positive experience highlights the exceptional care at the Woodlands Suite, where expert staff, state-of-the-art facilities, and attentive follow-up make it a top choice for patients seeking quality private orthopaedic care.

“Our goal at the Woodlands Suite is to provide not only expert medical care but also a comfortable, reassuring experience for every patient,” said Mr. Young. “Ensuring peace of mind before, during, and after surgery is as important to us as the procedure itself.”
